“Hairspiration” (hair inspiration): Tracee Ellis Ross

14 Apr

I’m a fan of Tracee Ellis Ross (especially that hair). I “met” Tracee the same way many of you did, as Joan Clayton on the hit series “Girlfriends.” When I used to watch the show as it originally aired I thought that her hair was too big and probably a headache to manage. That’s mostly because I was a teenager who thought my hair had to be bone straight in order to look fly. Ha! Welp, that way of thinking is definitely out the window. For the past 6 or 7 years I’ve been in love with big curls and when it comes to curls, Ms. Ross has that on lock.

Tracee stated in Jet mag last year, ““I’m Diana Ross’ child… big hair is what I come from” …“You gotta respect the curls,” she says. “I work for them. I can’t tell them what to do.”

When asked by The NY Times Style Mag how she maintains her hair, she replied; “When I’m not working, I spend a lot of time on my hair. When it’s time for my hair to get some rest, I either wear it in a ponytail, bun or my favorite “milkmaid” braid. My everyday essentials are Kim Kimble satin rubber bands, Bumble and Bumble Quenching Complex leave-in conditioner, Aestelance Hydrate leave-in conditioner. When slicking my hair into a clean pony, bun or braid, I mix a little Moroccanoil with water and smooth it on. The shampoo and conditioners I use depend on how I’m styling my hair — that list is reeeally extensive.”

Well, as a child of thee Diana Ross, I’m not surprised that Tracee, and her hair, are fabulous.
